Photo Collage: Day trip in Erfurt Germany

Have you been to all of the states in Germany? Me neither. I have been to almost all, but in most of them visited just a city or two. That is the case as well with Thuringia, state in central Germany A close friend of mine was exploring the west part of Germany and we decided to meet for a weekend, best option for both of us was Erfurt. Even though I didn’t have the city on my wish list, the Christmas magic made it such a nice surprise, but I firmly believe that it is even better to visit Erfurt in summer or spring.

We’ve started from the Central train station towards the Erfurt Cathedral – St Marien Dom, at this time there was the giant Ferris wheel and a Christmas market. Then we continued towards the Petersburg Citadelle, which was serving some good sights of the city. Once we checked off the most “remote” parts of the town we continued towards the old town.

The tiny alleys were amazingly decorated and they were giving some very cozy vibes. We also admired the canals of Gera river but even more the tiny Kirchgasse alley. This is romantic and very picturesque spot. It is right next to the Augustin Monastery. The walls in the alley are so high because it was believed that people shouldn’t look in the monastery.

Once we reached the old town again, one particular street was the most interesting for us, the Krämerbrücke, full of lights, craft shops, chocolateries and even a confetti shop.
For our lunch we did a very touristy choice, but what else is left in Christmas Time if not typical german cuisine at Haus zum Naumburgischen Keller. But speaking of food what really stole our heart was the interior and the products of Goldhelm – Ice cream and chocolate shop. They are present on a few locations around town and they really deserve a visit.

And with that we completed our trip to the capital of Thuringia. This was not typical sightseeing trip, especially because when you place the accent on Chritmas Market you do not get to explore so much. That’s why spring and summer is for.
We continued towards the Main Central station, but if we were to stay, then this hotel was my option: NASHI Rooms.
