SIGHTS IN GHENT

📷Belfry Tower – 90m high medieval tower overlooking the city center (General admission 8EUR, discount for students, children and GhentCityCard holders)
📷St. Bavo’s Cathedral – Catholic Gothic Cathedral, home of the world known Adoration of the Mystic Lamb (entry is free except for seeing the gorgeous painting 4EUR)
📷St. Nicola’s Church – the 3rd building of the famous Ghent Skyline, dating from 13th century
📷St. Michael’S Church – Roman Catholic Church dating from 12th century
📷St. Michael’s Bridge – the most romantic, picturesque bridge in the world, serving the nicest panorama.
🌃Korenmarkt – the main city square, you feel like in an open air museum, watch out the tram is passing here
🗽Vrijdags Markt – fresh produce market by day, and square with huge number of typical beer style breweries.
🖼️Graffiti Street – small street easy to miss next to the City Hall that reaches to Vrijdagsmarkt, the graffiti can change on a daily basis.

CITY AREAS IN GHENT

🍺Overpoort – street next to the student dorms and the biggest university buildings. Every night it is closed for traffic, and every morning smelling like washing detergent and beer mix.
🏰Rabot – the area of the turkish community in Ghent, here you can find things from all over the world, but mainly from the middle east
🏘️Patershool – you will fall in love with the area as it is like a little picturesque village with many bars, cafes and galleries. It is the hearth of the city
🚆Dampoort – the area around the not so frequent train station in Ghent. Especially popular in the summer.
🌸Kouter – The little square that hosts the flower market every Saturday, on this day oysters and champagne are consumed around here, it is the square where many banks and the opera have their seat
🛥️DOK-Noord – formerly abandoned area, trying to get more and more urbanized and lively, also a summer special.
🏘️Prinsenhof – my personal favourite stil in the very center, but no tourists come around here, cobble stones, rivver side, nice views. I want to live here.

FOOD IN GHENT

🍟Fries – a classic invented in Belgium, people say fries are double fried here, the best are in the Kiosk Frituur Jozef on Vrijdagsmarkt
🥩Ribs – the specialty of the Ribs House Amadeus
🧇Waffles – Rumor is circling that Waffles were actually invented in Ghent by Max
🍬Ghents Nose – liqourice style sugary candy, typical for the city
🍯Mustard – another local gem – most famous is in the Tierenteyn-Verlent store
🥃Jenever – flavoured liquor

OR Coffee Bar – One of the first specialty coffee spots in the city, they have tasty bagels as well

Le Pain Quotidien – chain but okay, both locations are extra nice, and finding place on a weekend is close to mission impossible. Be aware the cups of coffee are huge.

Julie’s House – sweets, cakes Julie has it all. Located in an old house with few rooms, the feeling is as you went to your aunties. Rocky Road cake is a must.

🍻Het Waterhuis aan de Bierkant – theo ldest beerhouse in Ghent functioning to date. They have 3 signatures out of. which the Klokke Roland is the one everyone is coming from

🍻Dulle Griet – a minute walking from Trollkelder, same style and their signature is the Dulle Griet 1.2L beer. You need to give your shoe as a deposit for the glass

ACCOMMODATION IN GHENT

🏘️AirBnb Puur Patershol – on our last weekend visit in Ghent we stayed here, I do not have enough words how nice everything was, every detail thought through. I am recommending it 100%
🛌HostelUppelink – I always wanted to stay in this hostel while i was living in Ghent, but then went for a day for an interview and it was my only choice, the common area is very nice, like from a movie scene, and the view amazing. Super decent hostel. My first choice was Back Stay, but it is unfortunately closed.
